How Long Do You Want to Live?

At the very least, some hundreds of millions of years at the low end. I suppose until there's nothing left to do, which ideally, would be never. Understanding the nature of the universe is sure to keep our hands busy for the next while. I suppose once we’ve mastered matter and energy, built civilizations on plancktech and black hole harvesting, I would hope that we unlock the next lower layers of reality. That we find ourselves with many more questions, and not less. That eventually we find a way out of this box and start exploring the next. I hope there’s more to do than simply rage against the dying of the light; more problems to solve than entropy. Perhaps there would be some peace in that, in finding that we’ve turned over every stone, and all that’s left to do is make our own meaning. But this remains to be seen. And if we want to see it ourselves, then we’re going to need to give ourselves more time, some backups, and more urgently, evolved substrates relevant in the age of digital and eventually analog intelligence.
